Young Innovators Proposal Draft
Why:

I have spent 25 years following my friend Shona Hammond Boys in her work with the NZ Children's Art House Foundation. We will never know the number of young people who did not commit crime or suicide because of this proven formula of Children's Art Clubs.

If Children between the ages of 8-12 get access to The Arts they have a chance to overcome their past experiences and re-invent their future, this nation and the world.

Notes

  • Instead of using the word 'children' which tends to indicate immaturity which is not the case with our genius young people.

  • Or the word 'youth' which has the negative connotation of this countries national figures on youth suicide, youth crime etc.

  • And rather than use the word Art, which means 'airy-fairy' in New Zealand and is ignored by most, and slowly being removed from our 'economy' focused society

  • I've used Young Innovators to describe our gifted and talented youth.

MISSION

Young People in New Zealand have the opportunities to practice The Arts as is their birthright in accordance with the United Nations Rights of the Child and the Culture of Peace.

Shall respect and promote the right of the child to participate fully in cultural and artistic life and shall encourage the provision of appropriate and equal opportunities for cultural, artistic, recreational and leisure activity.”

Article 31 of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child 1990

Aotearoa has Te Kohanga Reo, language nests for preschool children.

Aotearoa Tamariki need Te Kohanga Toi, Arts nests for all nationalities of children in Primary and Intermediate Schools. Children's Art Clubs.

Love Art - Be Kind

Children's Art Clubs have two rules: Love Art - Be Kind

If a child between the ages of 8-12 has been to an art club and developed the ability to work within these rules, to participate, co-operate and find their satisfaction, fulfillment and pride in themselves and their community, they could go on to continue working within their Arts throughout their teen years, returning to the Arts House volunteering to coach children.

We do not advocate starting the 'Art Clubs' with teenagers who have not participated in and practiced this philosophy.

A Proposed National Body will

Energize, motivate and raise awareness in people/businesses to investigate what they can do to assist young innovators

  • Investigate more invitations and training initiatives for young scientists, musicians etc

  • Offer After School Art Clubs to children who might be inspired with the possibilities for all of The Arts.

  • Establish properties to run the clubs from, 'Art Houses'

  • Train co-ordinators to run Children's Art Houses

  • Help communities to set up the support for children to run their clubs, ie service clubs

  • Make the storing and distribution of re-usable materials paramount is supplying young people's Arts Clubs

A child must be able to access a Children's Art House in every suburb of this country, therefore and especially in poor neighbourhoods. Parents who have the ability to drive their children to another neighbourhood, will  join the closest Children's Art Club.

In accordance with the NZ Children's Art House Foundation Philosophy
